Behind the Beauty: How to Ensure Cosmetic Safety

Skincare routines are becoming an increasingly integral part of daily life for millions of people. Given the impact these routines have on maintaining healthy skin, as well as their impact on people’s health and self-confidence, the cosmetics industry has gained tremendous momentum and importance in recent years.

While it is true that there is enormous investment in research into new resources that can be applied to the development of an ever-increasing range of cosmetic products, it is also true that, with this growing supply, it is increasingly important to ensure the safety of these products.

The development of the Cosmetic Product Safety Report (CPSR) is therefore a key step in assessing this safety.

This report evaluates aspects such as: the specific and expected application of the cosmetic product, the physical and chemical characteristics of the products, as well as their microbiological quality and qualitative and quantitative composition. The analysis of this composition is carried out taking into account the assessment of the restrictions imposed on certain ingredients by Regulation (EC) 1223/2009. The stability and efficacy reports of the product's preservative system are also analyzed, with low microbiological risk products (soaps, products with high alcohol content or without water, among others) being exempt from the latter. If any side effects are reported, the impact they may have on the expected use of the product is also analyzed. It is also important to ensure that the packaging is compatible with the product itself, in order to ensure that no harmful substances migrate from the packaging to the product itself.

The preparation of the CPSR is just one of the many services offered by Pharmilab. If you want to ensure that your cosmetic product enters the market in the best possible way, please do not hesitate to contact us.
