Scan4Chem: Transparency and Responsibility in Providing Information on SVHCs
The Scan4Chem app allows consumers to directly access information about the presence of Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs) in the articles they purchase. This initiative aligns with the obligations established under the REACH Regulation, promoting transparency and safety throughout the entire supply chain. This initiative is aligned with the REACH Regulation promoting transparency and security throughout the supply chain.
O Article 3 According to Article 3 of REACH, an article is defined as an object to which a particular shape, surface, or design is given during production, and which determines its function to a greater extent than its chemical composition.
The Article 33 Meanwhile, Article 33 states that suppliers of articles containing substances from the Candidate List in concentrations above 0.1% must provide safety information to recipients and consumers within 45 days of receiving a request.
For cosmetic products, this requirement applies only to the packaging, which is considered the article, since the cosmetic formulation is a mixture and therefore not subject to this obligation. Consequently, information about the presence of SVHCs must be obtained directly from the packaging supplier.
This requirement highlights the importance of having complete and up-to-date documentation for packaging materials, not only for compatibility and product safety assessments but also to ensure compliance with REACH obligations.
Pharmilab encourages suppliers to submit information about SVHCs present in their articles to the database linked to the Scan4Chem app. This allows consumers to access the information instantly, avoiding individual requests each time a product is scanned.
Transparency is an essential step toward strengthening consumer trust and ensuring regulatory compliance across the entire value chain.
