According to information transmitted by the European Commission through Alert No. A11/00001/21, notified in the RAPEX1 System by the Belgian competent authority (AFMPS), shampoos and conditioners from the Hair Food range (Aloe Vera, Banana, Macadamia, Watermelon, Papaya), of the brand Fructis by Garnier, may, due to their presentation, be mistaken for foodstuffs.
These cosmetic products, placed on the market by L'ORÉAL, have been widely distributed on the European market since January 2020, and no cases of intentional or accidental ingestion have been reported.
While these products do not present a risk to the health and safety of consumers under normal conditions of use, they have been subject to corrective measures aimed at reducing the risk of confusion with foodstuffs for consumers, in particular children.
Among the measures agreed with the Belgian competent authority (AFMPS), and with other European competent authorities, we highlight the changes in the closing and sealing system of the packaging, which aim to make it difficult to open them, and the warnings and other consumer information included in the labeling of each of the products, in the form of text, images or other figurative signs.
