Fotoprotection

Solar radiation consists mainly of:

  • Ultraviolet B radiation, shorter wavelength (UVB radiation); and

  • Ultraviolet A radiation, longer wavelength (UVA radiation).

Sunscreens can be effective in preventing sunburn. To have these preventive characteristics, sunscreens must protect against both UVB and UVA radiation.

Therefore, although the sun protection factor (SPF) only refers to protection against radiation that causes erythema (i.e. mainly UVB radiation), sunscreens must contain both UVB and UVA protection.

We perform:

  • FPS determination in vivo (ISO 24444:2019) with/without water resistance

  • Determination the critical wavelength (> 370 nm)

  • Determination of UVA protection in vitro (ISO 24443:2021) or in vivo (ISO 24442:2022)
